The consultation doesn’t just start once the client enters your consult room – it actually starts the moment you call their name, and first impressions count.
- A friendly greeting using their (and their pet’s) name is a great beginning, if it’s appropriate, you might want to ask them how they are today.
- Do they know who you are? It is good practice to introduce yourself by name and your role in the practice (unless of course, you are certain they already know!)
- Do they have their hands full? Can you help them in any way, maybe by offering to carry the cat basket or holding open the door?
First impressions matter and help to set the tone for the rest of the interaction. They also offer a great opportunity to build a rapport with the client. Remember, clients have consumer choice, make sure they continue to choose your practice.
