Summary
Hello,

Closing The Consultation

Orchestrating an Effective Consultation Communication Phases of a Consultation Closing The Consultation

Now that you have come up with a mutually agreed plan of action, you should have a final check-in with your client to make sure that there are no additional questions and agree on the next steps.

Safety Netting

Safety netting is a technique you should use in the closing stages of the consultation to give the client information on ‘red-flags’, communicate any uncertainty and make sure that a pet will be re-presented in an appropriate time frame if they are not improving. If a follow-up is required, book an appointment for this while your client is still in the clinic. For example, “Peaches’ tummy troubles should start to improve over the next 24-48 hours with the medication we have dispensed. However, if you see no improvement within 72 hours, or if she gets worse at any point, I’d like you to call us so we can get you back in as we may need to do further tests.”
